NEW ARRIVAL The L-7 was Gibson's most popular 17" guitar, with the same size, scale and materials as the more expensive L-5, yet interestingly the L-7 of this era had much more ornate inlays. The guitar features a handcarved bookmatched solid spruce top; solid handcarved maple back, sides and neck; Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and compensated bridge, ornate mother of pearl "picture frame" fingerboard inlays; older script Gibson peghead logo with "vase and curlicue" inlay; and bound body, fingerboard and headstock. During the mid to late 30's Gibson used an X-brace support system for the first time in their professional archtop guitars, this gives a warm woody tone, with greater sustain and bass response. This is a beautiful and hard to find example of a 30's Gibson archtop, in a great looking tobacco burst finish. The tone is voiced beautifully for blues, jazz and swing, has a very comfortable neck with low action all the way up the neck, making it a dream to play, and has the kind of vintage vibe that is impossible to replicate in a reissue. It's in excellent condition for a 83 year old guitar, all original other than exact replacement Grover open back tuners, with no cracks or repairs. It also has a K and K archtop pickup fitted with volume and tone controls mounted underneath the pickguard - this can easily be removed if the next owner wants the guitar to return to it’s original condition. The guitar even comes in it's original hard case.
