NEW ARRIVAL In 1954 Gibson launched the now world famous J160E. They made the guitar with a solid Spruce top, not realising that it would cause the pickup to feedback. So in 1955 they changed the spec to a laminate Spruce top, and it’s stayed that way ever since. In early 1955, a few J160’s were produced with a solid Spruce top, so Gibson made the decision not to fit a pickup or tone and volume knobs, and call it a J160. This model has become a thing of myth, as few people have ever seen one in the flesh….. Well here’s one, and it’s the only solid topped Gibson dreadnought acoustic I’m aware of to feature ladder bracing. What this does is reduce resonance and sustain, but add a dry, woody thump to the bass. It really is a unique sounding guitar. Rarity aside, it’s in good, played condition, with no cracks or repairs, although the area just below the pickguard has been filled. The neck feels great, and the action is just right. The guitar has an acoustic underside pickup installed with tone and volume controls mounted inside the soundhole. It comes in a later Gibson hard case.
