NEW ARRIVAL A 1950 D18 is quite a rare find, particularly at this price, and this example is excellent - one of the most surprising guitars I've played in quite a while. First of all we should discuss the look of the guitar - I don’t know whether the double pickguard was fitted to cover up wear patches from hard strumming, or just to make then guitar stand out in a crowd - but it really is distinctive looking. Then there’s the condition, Other than the obligatory pick guard crack, and one repaired back crack, it has a pro repaired headstock crack which has been good and tight for the last 25 years when it was done. Now the good stuff - the tone is deeper and richer than many equivalent guitars I've played, the Mahogany adds warmth when strumming, fingerstyle play is well balanced and articulate, and when soloing the smoothness of single notes is very impressive. The playing experience is very enjoyably too, the neck feels comfortable, and the fingerboard is really responsive. Altogether a seriously cool guitar and, when you consider cleaner examples go for nearly double, a more affordable option. It comes in a non original tweed hard case.
